What is SYNVISC®/Synvisc-One®?

SYNVISC® and Synvisc-One® (hylan G-F 20) are gel-like fluids used as a temporary replacement of and supplement for synovial (joint) fluid. They are used to treat pain associated with OA.

SYNVISC®/Synvisc-One® is a treatment that can:

Decrease pain and discomfort

Allow for more extensive movement of the joint

Protect cartilage cells against certain physical and chemical damage (from in vitro evidence)

How does SYNVISC®/Synvisc-One® work?

SYNVISC® and Synvisc-One® are viscosupplements. They are biologically similar to hyaluronan. Hyaluronan is a component of synovial fluid that is responsible for its viscoelasticity. Synovial (joint) fluid lubricates the joint and acts as a shock absorber.
